Welcome to the revised Fanshawe.org.uk website.
Apart from being largely dedicated to maintaining in the public domain the results of my research relating to the artistic descendants of the Wilson family of Factors of Banffshire, Scotland, I now have a new project to highlight - and that is the life and work of another fine artist and one-time Antarctic explorer ...
NEW !!!
William Alexander Cuthbertson (1882-1968)
Although another Scottish-born artist, he is not related in any way to the Wilson family. He was, however, a very good family friend.
Otherwise, and in particular, the site's prime focus remains the life and work of Victorian Scottish artist and pure Pre-Raphaelite adherent
George Wilson (1848-1890)
A further section is devoted to the life and work of George Wilson's niece, children's illustrator and etcher
Rachel Cassels Brown (1875-1953)
Via the link to Castle Park Publishing, access can be gained to the bookshop where relevant publications may be sourced and sample pages viewed. These include:
'The Lost Pre-Raphaelite - George Wilson; his Life, Work and Associates'. (Wilson's closest associates included the artists J.T. Nettleship and J.B. Yeats (father of W.B. Yeats), the architect Halsey Ricardo and the playwright John Todhunter, as well as many others).
Also available is 'The Two Muriel Wilsons - An Artistic Confusion'
and more recently 'Of Nymphs and Pans and ... a StubbyDub ? - The Story of 'RAB' - Rachel Cassels Brown'
